FREE energy installed a 2 MWp solar solution on the Apple Distribution Center Warehouse in Riyadh. The system is expected to generate 3.29 GWh/year and save 2,570 tons of CO2 emissions annually, while simultaneously resutling in cost savings of 592,000 SAR.

The installed system was a grid-tied solar solution adhering to SEC standards.

FREE energy and Zamil Operations & Maintenance were awarded a contract for the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the grid-tied solar solution. The warehouse was SEC ready and tied to 5 diesel generators.

The objective of the project was to allow the use of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems as a sustainable means of generating electricity in order to offset the energy demand from the SEC electricity grid and the generators.  Grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) systems employ the direct conversion of sunlight into electricity which is fed directly into the electricity grid without storage in batteries.

The solar system is flush-mounted system which is completely waterproof, installed on a standing seam roof.

An optimal technical design compromises the assessment of the building roofs and ground areas to obtain the required PV capacity. It also includes the assessment of the grid access and connection along while ensuring minimal electrical losses in the system.

The design procedure included the assessment and identification of the best technology combination for optimal operations, best quality and lifelong efficient energy generation with minimal potential errors and system failure.
